General Assembly 2025, presentation for discussion

Presentation for discussion at the General Assembly on May 1st, 2025

In 2021, the Council for Stage Dance in Denmark worked with a vision and a three-point plan for the coming years. The focus was, among other things, to work for the continuation and development of support structures, greater representation of dance nationally, and strengthening the relationship with other organizations in the field.

On the board, we have talked about how we need to be more visible in terms of focusing on dance and generally on the movement-based performing arts in Denmark. We have just appointed Thomas Eisenhardt to sit on the Danish Arts Foundation’s board of representatives, who, together with others within the performing arts field, will appoint 3 members to the Committee for Performing Arts Projects – and in 2 years, 2 members to the  Committee for Performing Arts Grants.

For us, it is important that the voice of dance is represented there – and by being a member of the Council, we can help to raise the voices.

BUT, what else can we do for the industry that works with dance, choreography, new circus and other movement-based performing arts? How do we define our area – and what is included in the concept of dance on stage?

We are currently 8 people on the board, who bring different experiences from different parts of the performing arts – both in Denmark and abroad. This means that we have different perspectives and also different angles and interests, which only makes the work and discussions more interesting and developing.

In the Industry Council, we want to have close cooperation with the other actors who also work with dance and performing arts – especially within the field consisting of small companies and self-producing artists. These include Uafhængige Scenekunstnere, Dansehallerne, Dansekapellet, Danish Dance Theatre, Dansk Scenekunst, Forsøgsstationen, AFUK, Bora Bora, The Development Platform and Performing Arts Platform.

In Danish, our name is Brancherådet for Scenedans – but what should our name be in English, so that everyone understands what we stand for?

We want to be a responsible voice, dialogue partner and bridge builder in the industry towards the surrounding cultural policy environment – and would like to invite you to a discussion about the further work of the Industry Council at our general meeting on May 1, 2025 at 5:00 PM at the Forsøgsstationen in Copenhagen. It is possible to follow the discussion (but not participate) via zoom. Link at www.scenedans.dk
